Earlier you could receive the full amount of child benefits if at least one of the parents had lived or worked in Denmark for at least 2 out of the last 10 years before the period of payment.

The rules are now:

You can only receive the full amount of child benefits on the condition that at least one of the parents have lived or worked in Denmark for at least 6 out of the last 10 years before the period of payment.

If you have not fulfilled the requirement of at least 6 years of residence or occupation within the past 10 years, you will only receive a percentage of the child benefit calculated based on the number of years the person with legal custody of the child has resided and worked in Denmark.

The new rules will not influence people who obtained the right to child benefit before 1 January 2018.
