Introduction to Remote Sensing in Environmental Sciences (2015)

Objectives of the course:
The course will give the participants an introduction to the principals of remote sensing, and how they can obtain and analyse remote sensing data for their environmental studies. Specifically, the course will:

  1. Introduce different types of remote sensing data,
  2. Illustrate a range of applications of remote sensing in environmental sciences,
  3. Guide the participants though the steps of locating and downloading relevant data, including hands-one exercises in Google Earth Engine,
  4. Introduce basic image analyses of remote sensing data. 


Learning outcomes and competences:
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles of remote sensing and its application in environmental science
  • Locate and download remote sensing data
  • Preform basic remote sensing analyses

Preparation and active participation


Course contents:
Lectures and computer exercises. Students need to bring their own computers.
