Fracture mechanical analasys of adhesive bonding – on the way to deeper knowledge under fracture

Alex Møberg

Alex Møberg has during the PhD investigated the shape of crack fronts under fracture in adhesive bonding, including a study of which parameters that influence the shape.

During his studies, Alex investigated a bonding between a transparent polymer plate and a rigid aluminium block bonded together using epoxy. The research is made theoretical using numerical calculation of the shape and thereafter validated with experimental observations. The obtained results contribute to the understanding of the mechanics influence the strength of adhesive bonding, which as an example is used in production of blades for wind turbines.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Engineering, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
