During his studies, Thies Marten Heick investigated the resistance of winter wheat pathogen Zymoseptoria tritici towards fungicides in Denmark and in the Northern European region. Z. tritici is causing septoria tritici blotch (STB), one of the most yield-reducing diseases in wheat worldwide. Thies’ study showed in field trials and in laboratory trials that resistance levels of STB varied and were highly influenced by different fungicide applications. Results from this research were translated to spray recommendations for Danish farmers to mitigate the risk of fungicide resistance.

The PhD degree was completed at the Research Centre Flakkebjerg (AGRO), Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
