Poor female fertility has been widely observed in high-producing dairy cattle, which caused economic losses and aggregated environmental pressures. In this PhD project, Aoxing Liu carried out an extensive investigation for female fertility traits in Chinese and Nordic dairy cattle populations, including estimating genetic parameters, quantitative trait loci detection, genotype imputation, traditional genetic evaluation and genomic evaluation, and exploring genotype by environment interaction. The findings of this PhD project could help us better understand the biology underlying female fertility traits and genetically improve female fertility traits of current dairy cattle populations.

The PhD degree was completed at the Centre for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, and National Engineering Laboratory for Animal Breeding, College of Animal Science and Technology, China Agricultural University.
