The availability of fishmeal as a superior aqua-feed ingredient is limited due to a stagnation of the global capture fisheries.  The research by Mohammad Sedigh Jasour focused on replacing fishmeal with different plant and animal by-products concurrent with optimizing extrusion technology to produce high quality aquafeeds. Particularly, use of protein from different sources (fish meal, feather meal and sunflower), oxidative protein chemical changes, and biological responses of rainbow trout (growth performance and metabolism) to these experimental feeds have been studied. Furthermore, Mohammad explored how fishmeal with different levels of biogenic amines affect fish growth performance. The research aids in the understanding of the effects of non-traditional ingredients and main extrusion parameters on protein quality and biological response of rainbow trout especially metabolites involved in tricarboxylic acid cycle.

The PhD degree was completed at Department of Food Science, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
