Tobias Madsen

During his studies, Tobias Madsen developed novel statistical methods to analyze large cancer genomics data. Tobias and his fellow research group has taken part of a large international consortium analyzing more than 2,500 cancer genomes. Having access to such an unprecedented resource poses great opportunities for new findings within the cancer field. On the other hand new challenges emerge as we look at larger data sets: First, methods that work on small data sets can be to crude to fully exploit the richness of a large data set. Second it is challenging to devise algorithms that scale well such that we can analyse these data in a reasonable time. The protein-coding part of the cancer genome is well-studied, the methods Tobias developed were used to find elements outside of protein-coding genome implicated in cancer development.
