Single molecule studies of synthetic DNA structures

Lasse Lava Hildebrandt

During his PhD studies, Lasse L. Hildebrandt conducted research on man-made nanoscale structures based on DNA. These structures can be dynamic devices and afford simple controllable functionalities. The performance of these devices is dependent on dynamic transitions between different possible conformations, and Lasse L. Hildebrandt studied such conformational dynamics in selected DNA structures.

To study conformational dynamics, Lasse L. Hildebrandt used the Föster resonance energy transfer (FRET) technique and he also investigated which requirements must be met in order for this technique to produce truly quantitative results. The new research findings contribute to the understanding of opportunities and challenges of devices in DNA nanotechnology.

The PhD degree was completed at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Centre (iNANO), Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
