During her studies, Ananda researched the effects of crop rotation and tillage regimes on winter annual weeds in winter cereals, especially grass species. Soil tillage methods and crop sequences strongly interact causing weeds to emerge differently in terms of numbers and timing. More specifically, Ananda studied how tillage affects the location of the seeds in the soil profile, composition of the weed flora, germination and cumulative emergence of the species, and the dissipation of soil applied herbicides.  

The new insights of this research provide a better understanding of how the studied species are influenced by farming practices. Thus, the information provided by this project may pave the way for defining better and more specific management strategies to target the emergence of these grass species, taking differences between cropping systems into account.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Agroecology, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
