Political Debate

All are invited to participate in the political meeting on 8 November 2017. Debating Aarhus Municipal Election will be a good opportunity for everyone to gain more insight into the fundament of people's choice when voting. The political meeting is organised by the AU University International Club - UIC in cooperation with the city council candidates and International Community.

We engourage everyone to attend the meeting, and enjoy an exciting evening debating the municipal election, and with interest listen to the different arguments, and future plans for the city of Aarhus.

Aarhus Municipal Election

Denmark is a representative democracy. On election day, voters elect the representatives they want to look after their interests in the Danish parliament, Folketinget, regional councils and town and city councils.

  • #VoteAarhus - Your Municipality, Your Vote is a cross political debate network for city council candidates running for the Municipal Election in Aarhus taking place on 21 November 2017
  • #VoteAarhus is a call to action, hence the hashtag, to the people of Aarhus - we want all citizens to take ownership of their municipality, and to vote at the municipal election
  • #VoteAarhus is represented by 9 different parties - each party has at least two council candidates connected to the debate network. The mission is to create a strong, respectful and genuine dialouge between citizens and council candidates in relation to the municipality of Aarhus
  • #VoteAarhus is founded by Anne Nygaard, Vice Mayor of Aarhus, who together with educational institutions, entrepreneurial co-working spaces, the International Community and many others have set up more than 25 debates, conversation salons, and election events throughout the Municipal Election 2017
  • #VoteAarhus could not exist without its passionated volunteers - all people who like the candidates represented in the debate network have a deep love for Aarhus and its citizens

Municipal and regional elections

The five regions and 98 municipalities are run by regional, local or town councils.

Municipal and regional elections also take place every four years, but this always happens on a fixed date, the third Tuesday in November. However, it is not possible to call regional or municipal elections in the middle of an election period.

The next municipal and regional election will be 21 November 2017.

Who can vote?

Any person who has attained the age of 18 years and is resident in the local authority area is eligible to vote in the election to local and regional councils. You have the right to vote in the municipal elections if, on election day besides being a permanent resident of the municipality of Aarhus, you meet at least one of the following criteria:
