Det Kgl. Bibliotek

Since January 2017, 'Det Kgl. Bibliotek' in Aarhus (the Royal Library Aarhus) has merged with the Royal Library in Copenhagen. This means that all citizens in Denmark now has equal access to materials, e.g. if someone would be interested in reading the philosopher Søren Kirkegaard's love letters, they are now available in Jutland as well - before, one had to go to the library in Copenhagen in order to access certain material.

Today, the overall management is here in Aarhus. It has brought some changes into the book tower; for decades we have named the library 'Statsbiblioteket' (the State Library), but since January 2017 it has been named the Royal Library Aarhus, because of its amalgamation with the Royal Library in Copenhagen.

The library holds more than 3.5 million books, and the book tower is a 43 metre high building without windows. If you want to get an impression of the many kilometres of books, or if you like to ask about the library's services, please join us for a tour around in the large building.
