Work Package 1 (WP1) directs focus on how to ensure a strong international dimension in doctoral education. Internationalisation is a key element in securing quality in research. Creating networks across borders and institutions and engaging with different schools within one’s field of research is often a necessity in the globalized and competitive world of research. By emphasizing internationalisation as part of the doctoral education the doctoral candidate will already be part of established international networks and thereby be given a head start at the onset of his or her future career. Furthermore an increased focus on internationalisation for the doctoral candidate will also in the long run strengthen research quality at institutional level.
Internationalisation needs to be encouraged in all parts of doctoral education and implementation will specifically be sought in formal procedures such as examination and supervision, where it will contribute to both direct and indirect quality assurance.
