Take-aways from PhD Career day 2023

On April 27th more than 200 PhD students and Junior Researchers took part in PhD Career day at AU. We were glad to see so many of you and hear Stakladen buzzing of career talks. The companies were happy with the engagement of the participants, stating in their feedback they have met “very competent and curious young people”😊

We have gathered some pieces of advice from the companies here:

• Explain what you can do with your degree and how you can add value
• Remember to be yourself and show your motivation for the job
• Don’t be afraid to use your network

You did it again: A PhD Student from Aarhus University is  represented in the international 3MT- final 2023!

Ida Cecilie Jensen from Aarhus University has been shortlisted as one of three finalists to compete at the live final in Cologne on 1 June 2023. You can follow the final virtually by joining Coimbra Group's YouTube channel. A link will be available on 1 June here.

In 3MT, PhD students present their research project in three minutes for an audience of non-specialists with only one static slide. The PhD students are taken through a communication workshop and feedback sessions before the competition. Communication skills are essential for PhD students, so you can present your research to others. You can read more about 3MT here, and consider if you would like to join the competition next year.

Join our Mentor program for PhD students from all five faculties at Aarhus University. The overall goal of the mentor program is to support you in your career development and ease your transition from university to a career outside of academia by bringing you closer to the business community.

Requirements

• Be a PhD student at Aarhus University
• Have a maximum of 3 years and a minimum of 6 months left of your PhD by the application date
• Participate in the introductory briefing
• Show commitment and engagement in your role as a mentee and be open to honest discussion and feedback from your mentor
• Participate in 4 meetings during the program's 8 months

Process 

• Deadline for applying: 15 August 2023
• Mentor matching process: 15 August - 15 October
• Start of mentoring journey: October - November

Company Visit at NMD Pharma

This event is for PhDs and postdocs and assistant professors.

Date & Time: 9 June 2023, 09:00 - 11:30

Location: Palle Juul-Jensen Blvd. 82, 8200 Aarhus

On Friday 9th of June, we are going on a company visit at NMD Pharma. A clinical-stage biotech company focused on developing therapies for neuromuscular diseases. At the company visit you will meet different employees, get a tour of the research laboratories, and learn more about their recruitment process. You can see the program here.

Project Management Tools for Grant Writing

The course is only for postdocs and assistant professors.

Date & Time: 23/8, 24/8 & 13/9

Location: Meeting Room 1 - Building 1420, Fredrik Nielsens Vej 2. 8000 Aarhus C

This course focuses on using project management tools as a systematic means of developing your initial grant ideas. You will be working with writing exercises where you will be working on your own grant proposal and get feedback. The speaker for this course is Constance Elizabeth Kamp who is a Special Consultant in Project Management tools at Health PhD School.
