Welcome to the fall semester

The semester has begun, and we look forward to welcome you to an exciting fall at AU Career PhD & JR with instructive workshops and inspirational events.

In this newsletter you can read a short sum up of our "Market Yourself Week", and we present our company visits at Danish Technological Institute and Danske Commodities. Our career consultants Miriam Kobbersmed and Vibeke Broe presented valuable tips on the vital parts of the application process:

Furthermore, the participants had the opportunity to get feedback on their own CV.

Company Visit at Danish Technological Institute

Date & Time: 28 September 2022, 09:00-11:30

Location: Kongsvang Allé 29, 8000 Aarhus

Do you believe that innovation and high-tech solutions are a part of solving the climate crisis? And are you passionate about making a difference with your knowledge and see it implemented, then DTI is the place for you.

Come visit us as part of your career clarification and to see with your own eyes, what is going on in a company like DTI compared to the university.Everyone is welcome who wants to learn more about the Danish Technological Institute and working in a consulting company.

Company Visit at Danske Commodities

Date & Time: 10 November 2022, 09:00-11:30

Location: Værkmestergade 3, 8000 Aarhus.

Danske Commodities is on a mission. We want to pave the way for the green transition by making renewable energy a profitable business. During the visit to our Aarhus headquarters, you will gain insights into how we are fusing skills like coding and advanced analytics with well-proven trading strategies and market experience. You will meet some of our employees, who have made the transition from academia to corporate life, tour the office and hopefully learn a thing or two about what it's like to be part of a collective of thinkers and doers, working together to make an impact.

Tests and Testing Your Strengths and Weaknesses

Date & Time: 13 December 2022, 14:00-16:30

Location: Building 1465-315

Through the Garuda focus profile test you will get insights into your work preferences, focus and your strengths and weaknesses. This is useful in relation to job interviews and in understanding why you might not always follow your colleagues' way of working. During the workshop you will be discussing your profile with other participants.

Fundamentals of Academic Writing

How do I improve my writing strategies to help me? This practical and interactive five session course starts by laying a foundation for your academic writing by showing you how academic English 'works' and explores a fundamental principle to create clear writing

The course consists of five monday sessions starting 24 October 2022 from 14:30 to 17:30

Elements of Leadership:

An Introduction to Leading Others

While leading others is often part of advancing our career, whether inside or outside academia, often those in leadership positions do not receive training in how to lead. This two-day course introduces participants to four essential 'elements' of leadership. In the process of doing so, it explores what leadership is and offers practical tools and strategies to help you begin to lead others more effectively.

General Assembly and Self-Leadership Workshop

Date & Time: 8 December 2022, 11:30-16:00

11:30-13:00: Lunch and General Assembly

13:00-16:00: Self-leadership Workshop with Matt Lane

Speaker: Matt Lane

Matt is passionate about helping researchers contribute better to society by doing better research. Therefore he specializes in four areas: communication and the foundations of academic English for international publication; researcher wellbeing; researcher leadership using key mindsets to master essential skillsets; and organizational development to affect positive structural change.

Danish Living Crash Course

Date & Time: 27 October 2022

Location: Mogens Zielersstuen, Studenterhus

The format is a 3-hour ‘crash’ session that focuses on living and working in Denmark. Danish cultural norms are highlighted, as well as cultural behavior within diverse cultural contexts.

Participants learn practical tools and strategies for how to work and act ‘culturally intelligent’ in daily life, as well as when collaborating in an international work environment in Denmark.
