More and more academics move from research in an academic context to research in the private -and the public sector. Today more research in Denmark is being done in the private sector than at universities. The possibility of continuing to do research whether it is in a lab, in a consultancy or at a museum is thus quite high outside of the academic context and the positions offer challenging tasks, highly competent colleagues and often quite a good salary.
Research and Development (R&D) in industry is found by many researchers to be a stimulating field that merges scientific knowledge, tools, and achievements with industry goals. Many researchers are drawn to industry because of the more direct and practical applications of their work, the work/life balance, and the job stability.
Public sector research is as diverse and broad as it is in industry. For some jobs you can use your specific subject knowledge and for others it is your research specific skills that are required in order to generate new knowledge within a given area.
